Infidelity…… Why do we do it?

Posted by Andrew on August 26th, 2006

Adultery is a very sensitive subject for all married couples. Nobody would like to find out that their partner was having an affair, unless, that is, they were looking for a reason to walk away from the marriage.

Often, the abuse of trust and sense of betrayal involved in the affair are too much to bear. Many married individuals go to great lengths to conceal their affairs because they have no intention at all of terminating their official relationship.

For many of these individuals the sense of intrigue excites them and brings renewed energy into their official relationship. Often, people, have one night stands or flings which may help to break sexual tension that may exist between the individuals in question.

Some women are excited by the fact that other women find their partners attractive as this reaffirms the fact that they made a good choice of partner.

One very famous English lady in the seventeenth century is renouned to have said said, “I cannot think of anything more boring than having an husband that nobody else wants”. And this brings me to the fact that the reasons why men and women cheat are very different indeed.

Men have a natural instinct to sire as many offspring as possible so that their genes are past on to the next generation. This literally has not changed since the cave man era. Men may think that they are masters of their own desires, sorrowfully, (or should I say pityfully), this is not the case.

Women, on the other hand, have a natural drive to find the best male specimen that they can to sire their offspring. Yet, in saying that women will not entertain the notion of casual sex as readily as men.

It is no secret that the expenditure of energy needed to sire a child is comparable to the energy required for making a cup of tea. (sorry guys).

For the woman, on the other hand, the energy required to produce a child from the moment of conception to after the birth is comparable to running thirty one marathon races. This make the whole business of copulation, in female terms, a much more serious affair.

In studies carried out worldwide it was found that eighty percent of women actually cheated during ovulation and that over ten percent of men were raising children sired by another man.

This would indicate that this sort of activity, on the part of the woman, is directly connected her basic natural instinct to produce the healthiest most dominant offspring she possibly can, which suggests that her instincts have more to say in how she acts than she may like to admit.

So, although we may all like to flatter ourselves that we have sex for fun, and that we are in control of our urges, in fact, we are behaving much more naturally than we know.

In other words, there is a conflict between our natural instincts, or the way we were designed to act, and the way that we are expected to act by society. Yet despite this, most couples, by enlarge, manage to maintain a balance when dealing with their sexual drives.
